Korpisota 1941 - Attack to the East

Tapio Heiskanen, Mikko Rautiainen, Tom Houlihan

The history book "Korpisota 1941 – Attack to the east" (ISBN 978-952-65799-0-0) first focuses on how Finland found itself in a new war after the Winter War, the Continuation War. After this, the work discusses in detail the events in the Kuusamo-Kiestinki direction, from June 1941 until the end of the year. In June 1941, mobilization was carried out, including in Kuusamo. The eastern border was crossed and the goal was to advance to Kiestinki, perhaps even to Louhi. The advance went very quickly at first, even building a road and the German SS-Division Nord arrived to help. However, the advance began to slow down in August 1941 and stopped at the Battle of Kiestinki. After the Battle of Kiestinki ended, plans were still made to capture Louhi, but the opportunity for this had already been lost at this stage.

The book brings to light a lot of new information, drawing on all possible material on the subject, but above all on Finnish and German war diaries. The book contains a lot of wartime photographs and interactive zoomable maps depicting precise events.
